The 33rd Annual National Hispanic Women’s Conference and luncheon was a full blown success on Friday at the Pasadena Convention Center. There were over 2 thousand attendees, including young hispanic women in high school and college. Organized by the MAOF (Mexican American Opportunity Foundation) and co-produced by Macy’s, the conference was formed “to create career opportunities for Hispanic women and bring greater awareness to the talent pool available in the Latino community,” as per their event program. This year’s awards ceremony had a very prominent group of successful hispanic women in all areas of community service and business. One could not help but feel proud of the accomplishments of these beautiful and talented women, and connect with their message of empowerment, education and inspiration. And everybody was bilingual!
The honorees were: U.S. Secretary of Labor (under Obama administration) Hilda Solis; financial expert Julie Stav; world class chef, author and nutritionist, Chef Lala; Milka Duno, professional car driver; Concepción Rueda Gómez, Mexican Commission for the Development of Indigenous people; Dr. Lora Villarreal, Ph.D, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer for Affiliated Computer Services. After the awards ceremonies, Macy’s presented a wonderful fashion show that had all the girls screaming for the male models…and the fashion was also fabulous.
